How Can I Play In The WSOP?
By Pokerpromotions.eu
Every poker player knows that the WSOP is the holy grail of poker. They would love the chance to play at a final table, beside Phil Helmuth and Johnny Chan. However few will every make it there and even fewer know what it takes to get there.
There are a few different ways to have the opportunity to play in the WSOP. While it is true that anyone can enter, there are a few things that you have to be aware of.
Players play online at poker rooms, that offer promotions where you can win a seat in the WSOP.
Playing in the WSOP can cost a lot of money. Now, I’m not just talking about travel and accommodations. I am talking about the actual entry fees. While some of the smaller buy in events can be played in for as little as a few thousand dollars, the major events, like the main event, have a $10,000 buy in. Few people have this kind of money lying around.
If you don’t have this kind of money at your disposal, don’t give up on your dream yet. There are a few ways many player get around this financial hurdle.
First, if you are an online poker player, you can try and play your way into the tournament. The way it works is simple. You will have to play in a series of tournaments,
usually Texas Hold’em or Omaha Hi, and if you eventually make it to the final tournament and win, the poker room will purchase an entry for you, and you get to play for free.
If you are confident in your skills and have some free time, this is a great method to try.
It is important to keep your ears open, read poker news and visit poker blogs to find out which online poker rooms are offering WSOP entries.
The other way is to find a financial backer for you. Not many people know this, but some of the players in the WSOP are playing as a business entity. Someone else has paid their entry fee (“backed” them), and in return, they get a percentage of the winnings. This is how Jaime Gold won the WSOP a few years back. To find these people, you just have to look and ask around.
If you want to play in the WSOP, you will need dedication, skill and some money.
